7-17

Nine years ago today, I began a journey to an unknown town, to start a new adventure.
This town was Victorville, and the adventure was into dog-motherhood.
(if you ever refer to me as my dogs "mom" I will probably slap you in the face. But lets face it, thats what I am in strange interspecies way.)
Along with my parents and my littlest big sister, we began a incredibly exciting road trip.
Those couple hours were probably the longest of my life, as I tried to distract myself with my bag full of dog books (I have almost as many of those as cookbooks ;) and the brand new Jessica Simpson CD that my sister let me borrow that day.
As we arrived at our destination, we were greeted by puppy barks and wagging tails. There were several puppies in the litter (which was actually a couple litters, first sign that Penelope the Great was probably born in a puppy mill.) which ranged in ages in colorings. None of those puppies really looked the way a beagle, the breed of my desire, should look; but all won me over with their incredible cuteness. My decision came down to two pups. The sixteen week old tan puppy, or the ten week old black and brown puppy. I picked up the first puppy, did all the puppy tests I had been researching for so long and set her down. I then picked up the black puppy, and started to perform my tests. I did finish those tests, which she passed with flying colors; but I didn't really care what the results were as soon as I locked eyes with that precious puppy.

And that is the story of how the tiny pup with too big ears, became my Penny Sue.
(she almost became a Cocoa. Can you even image that?)

A Follow Up to that Last, Sorta Depressing Post

Carina Bean Goes to the Dentist ::

Guess what guys?! There is one part of my body that isn't lousy! Who woulda thought, right?

Let me tell you the tale of my dental adventure, kay.

First off, this all began with a discovery of a sharp edge, which kept poking my tongue. (ok, I kept touching it with my tongue on purpose, but whatever. no self control remember.)
So in a casual conversation with my mother, I just happened to mention that I very most likely had a whole in my tooth. This is apparently not something that can be mentioned to a parental casually, without further discussion, and before I knew it, I had an appointment for later that week.
Thats when the freaking out began.
I was sure I had a cavity growing in every one of my precious teeth. Seeing how my last visit to the dentist was three million years ago, (we're talking 2006 guys. gross.) it was a very real possibility. In my mind, I would rather not know the impending doom; so the old "its better to know" concept doesn't help me at all.
The day came, I had anxiety all morning, and flossed my teeth five hundred times as a last ditch effort.
X-rays, ugg. They were just as annoying as I remembered them.
Somebody talking to you, with their hands in your mouth, and while you can't respond; still obnoxious.
Although, if peoples mouths didn't gross me out, that could totally be a great job for me. I could talk about things all day!

When all was said and done, I have one itty-bitty microscopic cavity, that will get filled just to prevent it from growing. I also have a chip on a molar, which was what was poking me.

My dentist was very disappointed.

See in you in another seven years, Doc!

On Vegetarianism ::

I am only eating meat, at most, every other day (once a day).

The days I don't eat meat: I sleep like a rock.
Seriously, insomnia gone.

Penny-La-Poop Goes to the Vet ::

My baby is getting old.
I am paranoid.
I am more paranoid and anxious over this pup, then anything else on the planet. Even my teeth.

She has a naked bum, and half a rat tail.
She also has a bald spot and tumor infested ears.

One shot, a bottle of pills, and a cone of shame later; and she's on her way to recovery.
Supposedly, the tumors on her ear flaps, are nothing to worry about.
I am still worried.

This is why I can never have children.

Penny Says Hello

Aren't you so glad?!

20121225

and then there was that time I made my dog wear clothes, and she gave me dirty looks the whole time.

here are a million-and-one bad photos of the worst dog model on the planet.

She literally hides her face when the camera comes out, and than I make her wear clothes! Only in my dreams would she ever be cooperative of this situation.

I love this pup mucho!
Even if she won't let me dress her up in holiday attire.

Merry Christmas from Penelope and me, to you and yours!

Whales

This week, our local beaches have had some special visitors.

While everyone has been seeing this:

All I saw was this:

And the only creature I spotted was this:

Oh well,

maybe tomorrow I'll spot them sea creatures,
but for now I'll settle with the fact that the Pennster's trip to the beach made her one happy little pup.

Happy Birthday Penny-La-Pee!

You know how people like to share five point three billion pictures of their kids? Well, be prepared for a zillion pictures of this birthday gal.

Eight years ago today, this little pup joined the family at eight weeks old.

She came to me during a tough time in my life, and a few weeks after the loss of our beloved labrador.

I named her Penny Sue.

aka
Penny-la-pee
Penn
the Pennster
Penelope
Penny-la-poo
Penny nickel
Dog
the pup

Despite her strong vocal abilities, she is a great little pup.

She loves her people, and sure lets them know it.

One time a couple years ago, while eating her dinner one of my nephews came over and started to play with her food. I realized how amazing she is, when she backed up, laid down and waited for him to finish playing with her food before she continued to eat.

Not many dogs would do that.

In fact, if she was any other dog, that kid probably would be a few fingers less.

When she was a pup, and was so full of energy I dreamed of the day when she would grow older and be calm and quiet.

That day has yet to come.

Happy Birthday Penn.

I sure do love you little pup.
{even though you like to eat toilet paper}

Heres to eight more years!?
